Toughest 10K in Galveston

On Saturday Tyler ran the Toughest 10K in Galveston across the causeway.
I was pretty excited for him to run it because it was his first official race ever with a timing chip and number and everything.
This is also kind of a big deal because Tyler isn't much of a runner, or he used to not be much of a runner, so it's been fun to see him become one since we've known each other.
The summer we met Tyler was big into lifting, but not much of a cardio guy.
I was doing my internship as a personal trainer at the time and sometimes I would ask Tyler for ideas on what to do with my clients as an excuse to talk to him. :)
He always did a mile run at the end of his workouts so he was always telling me his latest fastest time.
As we started dating we would go on runs together. I'm more of a slower runner, but longer distances kind of person. One of my favorite runs was up 9th and around the Provo temple.
Tyler told me one time I had invited him to go on a run with him and he had just eaten like half a pizza, but wanted to hang out with me so he came on my run up to the temple anyway and it was all he could do to quit from puking up all his pizza. hahaha! ahhh, true love.

So anyway, Tyler has become a pretty consistent runner since we've been married and especially since we've moved to Galveston because we live a block from the gym and go every day. As a trade off, I have become a much more consistent weight lifter since we've been married.
I guess we all get something out of this deal.

So, the 10K. We have to credit our friend Diana for getting Tyler to sign up for it. She is always on the look out for the next event!
So Tyler, Diana and our friends Mckay and Adriane Moline all ran the race.
I would have loved to do it, but I'm trying to take it easy as a pregnant lady.
Instead I got to be the support crew on race day, which was pretty fun.

We got to the race nice and early. There were 1400 people signed up to run it so we wanted to make sure we could find parking.

Here are the runners getting all prepped for the race.

Here's Tyler at the beginning with the starting gate behind him.
He still looks pretty happy at this point.

I could get any pictures during the race because it was up on the bridge, but Tyler tells me it was pretty brutal.
The bridge has a pretty steep incline and Tyler is used to running on a flat treadmill so he said that kind of killed him.

He looked good coming in though!
Official time was 45:41
He placed 9th out of 73 in his age division and 65 overall!
Not too shabby!

Mckay, Adriane and Diana did awesome too.
Mckay came in 4th in his age division and Diana and Adriane came in 1st and 2nd in their age division!

Here are the guys with their medals.
Good job! You guys are tough!

(Tyler is not impressed.)
