[P.S. Who ever heard of canceling church due to heat in MARCH!]
So with our two unexpected extra hours we decided to go for a walk on the beach today. Going on walks is something I really miss about living in Provo. We used to go on a walk almost every Sunday and the weather was always great and there were tons of places to go. Galveston is a different story. For how touristy it is here, it's not really that pedestrian friendly. At least not where we live. So anytime we want to go on a walk we have to head over to the beach. We haven't been to the beach since last September-ish so it was fun to get out there and walk along the water.
I also thought today would be a good day to update the blog about what we're up to, which is not too different than what we've been doing. Tyler has started his last class for his first year of med school. I can't believe it! I still feel like we just got here, but here we are wrapping up year number one of med school. I have to say, it's been a lot different than I expected. I thought I would never see Tyler and he would be stressed out all the time, but it hasn't been that way at all. Since I work at home (most days) I actually see him a lot more than I used to. We get to go to the gym together for a couple hours most days spend most of our time together. Even if he is studying or I am working, we're still in the same place and can take breaks to see each other and say hi. We are loving it! We hear that it doesn't stay this way for long though so we are remembering to enjoy it while it lasts.
Work is going well for me. We did the Presidential Fitness Challenge last week, which was pretty eye opening for a lot of the people there. A lot of people couldn't even do ONE sit-up! They have a lot of work to do! My company is also having me give some presentations in a few weeks for some other contracts they have in the Houston area. I'm excited about it. I like that they are able to use me for other things than just coaching now that I live down here. It keeps it interesting for me.
Tyler is also all set for the research he's going to be doing for the 8 weeks between first and second year. He's working with a PhD at the school who does research on behavioral strategies of doctors working with patients and specifically how they can use motivational interviewing to improve treatment outcome. Or something like that. I'm actually really excited about this research because that is what I do!!!! The whole health coaching approach I used in my job revolves around this idea of motivational interview. They trained me in this when I first started at my company. It's really exciting to me to hear about them developing this for doctor's because it's so much more effective in patient treatment. It sounds like Tyler will be doing a lot of interviewing of Residents here at the hospital who have been trained to use motivational interviewing. I don't really know everything (or anything), but it will be fun to hear about it when he gets going on it!
In other news, we have finally had to succumb to turning on the AC. It feels wonderful. We've been keeping the windows open the last week or so and that has been really nice, but it's just too hot! I am hoping it cools down again for a little bit before the summer really hits, but I'm kind of doubtful that is going to happen.
Also we had a fun Saturday night yesterday babysitting Max, a cute little 18 month old in our ward. His mom and dad wanted to go out for their Anniversary and we were the lucky ones that got to keep him company while they were gone. He was fun to play with and probably the easiest kid I've ever babysat in my life! The kid practically changed his own diaper! We've had a lot of fun getting to know our friends little kids. We hope our kids turn out just as cute!
And that's pretty much the update. Here are some tasty pictures of a couple of dinners we've had around here recently. I love food! It's so fun to find recipes on Pinterest to try. Our culinary experiences would be a lot more bland around here without the inspiration of Pinterest.
My first Chicken Pot Pie....
Complete in a Polish Pottery dish from Mom!
Classic BLT with spinach salad.
Not a pinterest recipe, but sometimes I'm just in the mood for a good BLT. Also, please note the Guten Appetit dishes from my mom. Our food would not be nearly as good without these cute dishes to serve them on!

Love the dishes!! :) Great for Tyler getting his research options sorted out. Looks like you will have an "inside source" getting some more pointers for your clients.
