Last night we got together with a few friends from the ward to make Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory-style caramel apples. I have been dreaming about making these apples ever since Adriane posted a picture of them on my facebook wall a couple weeks ago. This was an EXCELLENT idea! I had never tasted a caramel apple like these until I went to BYU. Every October the BYU bookstore sells caramel apples just like the ones at Rocky Mountain, but they sell them for the month of October ONLY. So this was a treat I would get only once a year..... until I discovered Rocky Mountain. Still, at 8 bucks a pop, something I would only let myself buy... pretty much never.
(On a side note, a couple summers ago me and Tyler went to Tucanos for my birthday and during our meal Tyler said he had to go to the bathroom and he would be right back. 20 minutes later I was getting concerned about his intestinal function and wondering if I should do something when he finally came back saying something about "clearing the pipes" and "ready for a second round of meats" etc etc. I found out later that day that he had snuck away to get me my favorite caramel apple from Rocky Mountain right next door and apparently they were having all sorts of issues with the register so it took forever. Loved the apple, but I was not a fan of sitting alone at a table in a restaurant for 20 minutes making awkward small talk with the waiter. haha! I love you, Tyler!)
Anyway.... making the apples was a ton of fun. Here are a few pictures from the night.

Lynn and Adriane.
Thanks to Adriane for letting us all come over and make a huge mess! |

I love this picture of Lawson chowing down on this apple. Katelyn is such a cool mom!

One of the finished products!!

We made 6 apples total. We kind of feel like pigs, but we figured we should just use up all the ingredients instead of throwing them away.

This is my favorite one. Caramel, white chocolate and cinnamon sugar sprinkled on top.

YUM!
After this experience I have gained a lot more respect for what they do over there at Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. I think those apples may actually be worth $8. It was pretty tough to make the apples look pretty, but they still tasted good.
Oh and I titled this New Halloween Tradition because Tyler and I decided that we are going to do this every year for Halloween. Way more fun (and delicious) than dressing up.
Happy Halloween!!
