Biker Rally

This weekend was Galveston's annual biker rally event. When I first heard about it earlier this week I thought I would barely notice the event. I had no idea how big this thing was going to be, but it has taken over the island! We've heard estimations that last year's rally had 400,000 - 500,000 bikers on the island over the weekend. 500,000!! That's half a MILLION!! That number sounds insane to me and I still don't know if I believe it, but we experienced a little bit of the rally and did see thousands of bikes. And for the past 3 days I've been hearing motorcycles constantly cruising by our apartment. I guess the idea of the rally is just that bikers from all over the place come down to Galveston to show off their bikes and check out new models of bikes and gear and stuff. Also a lot of drinking goes on. Tyler said someone told him last year only one person died and that was a success. Apparently UTMB's ER gets pretty busy this weekend.

So we thought it would be fun to go drive around to check out the biker rally on Friday night and it was pretty sweet. A lot of bikers were cruising around with their sweet bikes that were all lit up. I tried to get some pictures, but none of them really turned out. We thought that would kind of be it for our biker rally experience, but on our way to a party tonight we had to drive down the Seawall again and got to see way more bikes than we did yesterday. I got some sweet pictures this time.

Tons of bikes were lined up all along the Seawall.

And this is the other side. Those are bars behind the bikes. Packed,  of course.

We passed tons of biker gangs like this.

These guys were wearing viking helmets! Ha! Love it!
It was pretty fun to see all the cool motorcycles. Tyler and I think that one day in the very distant future we might have to get our own bikes to come down here to the rally.

I also took some pictures of me and Tyler kayaking at the party tonight. The Ashton's, from our ward, live in a sweet house on the west end of the island. They had a bunch of people over from the ward to get to know us newbies. We had a great time!

Here's Tyler. He's such a cutie.

Katelyn took some pictures of us out on the water. Here's us getting into the kayaks.

Every weekend brings something new in Galveston!
